Sunbeam On Palo Verde After A Storm

August 6, 2001  Monday

Thursday Night Monsoon   It’s about 8:15 PM. I’m at the computer – instant message - a friend just uploaded a flash file to my ftp site. Flashes outside. Storm coming from the south. Turned off all the lights and went on back porch to watch. Big lightning – 10 seconds – about 2 miles away. A few moments later it’s five seconds. The wind whips up, a mistiness in the air. Quickly the wind blows hard bending the trees. The rain starts. Suddenly it’s a deluge. Water pouring out of the roof scuppers in streams as think as your leg. Inside you can look up through the skylights and the lightning’s right overhead. Then some hail mixes in tapping the roof. There’s so much lightning it seems unreal – like an old B movie where they over do the lightning effects. And in another few minutes it’s all tapered down to a light rain, and soon will be gone.
