The Week the War Started September 16, 2001, Sunday Watching the Stars: Lay on the brick wall on my back looking North. Thin wispy clouds pass by. Lighting way off in the East, beyond Reddington Pass. Focus on North star, relax and let vision expand outward. Cassiopeia is to the right. Estimate about 40-degrees above the horizon around midnight. Will check the Nautical Almanac -- wonder how close I am to guessing its elevation above the horizon.
September 21, 2001 Saturday Fire in the back yard fire ring. Played guitar. Taught myself to play "America the Beautiful" in D on 12-string guitar.
Shadow On the Sky November 10, 2001 Saturday We drove to Sonoita to have lunch at Karen's Restaurant. Then continued South to Patagonia. While in a shop we learned Helen Chester was in town, so we drove out to her property and hung with her and took pictures. On the drive back to Tucson the sun was low as this shadow rolled toward the East.
